Tonka bean is an ingredient full of contrasts, sometimes reminiscent of vanilla leather, sometimes almond, sometimes revealing chocolate facets.

On June 22, 2021 BDK Parfums introduced Velvet Tonka to the press, it is the fifth edition of the Matières Collection, which subtly explores the perfumer's color palette with a desire to elevate beautiful ingredients through powerful and refined creations.

Velvet Tonka features a trio of tonka bean, orange blossom and almond. When applied to the skin, it envelops it like an oriental treat covered in powdered sugar. Delicate tonka bean is embellished with almond and rose petals for a velvety touch, with a touch of tobacco absolute to give it a honeyed feel. At the base are addictive notes. Milky amyris wood enhanced with ambroxan and vanilla for unparalleled velvety and sensuality.

It is a new creation that immerses us in the heart of the tonka bean surrounded by almond and orange blossom, composed by perfumer Alexandra Carlin (Symrise).

The composition is a nod to the Moroccan origins of David Benedick, founder of the brand, who wanted to pay homage to the flavors and colors of this region. Alexandra Carlin first imagined the “horn of deer” accord representing the sweet regional treat with its light texture, elegantly sprinkled with powdered sugar and nuances of rose, orange blossom and almond. and vanilla.

Velvet Tonka is a tribute to founder David Benedek's Moroccan roots and to the icons associated with the region through its flavors and landscapes, like a pleasantly sweet breeze blowing straight from the Atlas Mountains.

Alexandra Carlin reworked this first olfactory sketch with the idea of addiction and sensuality in mind, she embroidered around tonka bean, which is a fragrance in itself, to give a subtle touch to the facets of almond, honey and hay / Amsterdam tobacco, and because she likes to work with echoes, she stretched tobacco leaves from Tonka bean using tobacco absolute with herbal and honey undertones

The dark side of tobacco, ambroxan and amyris (slightly milky sandalwood note) contrasts with the floral side of the composition (rose absolute and orange blossom) and the gourmand tones of the initial accord.

Tonka lactone, a captive of Symrise, emphasizes the vanilla effects of tonka bean material with its milky notes. Coumarin and vanilla complete the entire fragrance, supporting the “deer horn” accord and blending harmoniously with tobacco.

This fragrance explores the influences of almond tonka bean in an original way. Alexandra Carlin has balanced the textural effects of the lightness of an elegant powdery sugar accord and the more intense and warm amber dimensions of the fragrance. It is an interesting creation that takes some time to discover; It turns out to be more complicated than you might initially think.
